"The main focus of this book is to analyse the agricultural practices of
the prominent Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) Kondh and Porja in the
Visakhapatnam Sub-Plan areas of Visakhapatnam. This study is undertaken
against the background of implementation of different agriculture
development programmes initiated bu ITDA Paderu under A.P. Tribal
Development Project (APRDP) with the assistance of International Fund for
Agriculture Development (IFAD) in the Chintapalli mandal of Visakhapatnam
district. Towards this end this work analyzes the resource base and
features of tribal Sub-Plan area of Visakhapatnam district, briefly outline
the activities of the ITDA, Paderu, analyses the prevailing agricultural
practices and horticulture practices of the selected tribe households in
the light of different agriculture and horticulture development programmes
implementing by ITDA, Paderu.
The major findings of the study ultimately points out that the PTGs
agrarian economy in Visakhapatnam district has strated moving and
accommodating itself to new ideas and appreciating the benefits of
irrigation, new seed fertilizer, education and health.
This will be a valuable reference book for economists, teachers,
researchers and students. It is hoped that this book will be immensely
useful in guiding the policy makers, tribal administrators in formulating
the policy for tribal development in our country."
